Maybe it was the pandemic and the lack of audio conventions, but it sure seems like Youtube has become the place to gather, learn and share thoughts about music, audio and sound.
During the MoFi conversation, I found myself at Youtube watching a number of videos on the subject. I realized how far off people were on the subject and then I notice just how many people had videos on vinyl collections. Everyone had an opinion - even if it was to comment on someone's else's video on the subject. The comments were quite lively, too. It seemed like everyone with even a modest understanding or had made a trip to the vinyl store put up a Youtube channel wiith a comment on MoFi mastering.
Now that the dust has settled, my Youtube feed has been taken over by videos from audiophiles and manufacturers. Paul McGowan (PSAudio) always has a fun video. I tend to frequent and comment on his videos when he talks about DSD. Today I watched a John Darko's 15 reasons why he still likes CDs. Chad Kassem (Acoustic Sounds) and Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering) have been offering wonderful advice on audiophile interviews.
Without conventions, this has been a way to hear the voices of so many people we've met or see at shows and a great way to exchange ideas - whether it's to agree, disagree or offer an educational aspect. Will we ever start a youtube channel for audiophiles? We hope so.
