The lockdown gave me a chance to move into my home. Some of you know I've been living in the same house for nearly 40 years so you might think it's odd that I would say that but it's true. The house, like my career, has taken on different directions, purposes and changes as it grows older. It's a little like moving into a new home... and just as much a pain to go through all that stuff in boxes. But it's time.
The commercial studio occupies the lower 2 levels of the house. I have a least 3 listening rooms down there. The top floor is where I live and have a private office. For 20 years, it wasn't available for the crew to work in but that is about to change. My office has turned into a zoom room where I've been meeting and teaching from. The green room upstairs is becoming an immersive/binaural mixing station (and future SEA/mastering room). When I get the roof fixed, the garage will become "something" -- not sure what just yet. And my storage area will slowly emerge as the dining room is was meant to be.
Thanksgiving is my target date for throwing a BIG party.
Besides the dust, the hardest part of all this cleanup is examining all the items that have memories or a reason to keep. No, I don't think I'm going to get under the house to figure out what's there. Maybe the next twenty year overhaul.
