Let's start with the last question... What is the relationship of MQD to MQA? Nothing.. no relationship. We came up with Master Quality Disc (MQD) at Blue Coast many years before MQA debuted. You can google MQA for details. I'll explain MQD discs here and now...
MQD discs is a detailed process for creating a Redbook CD for our high end customer who still wants to still to good quality discs on their expensive systems. We have gold discs made to our specification as blanks. Why gold? Tests have shown the durability for gold to preserve information far outweighs the typical discs manufactured for bulk production and sales. Also, gold discs have less errors in creation. Mastering facilities old enough to master CD probably still have their measuring tools that verify a disc and reads out the errors.
Many people may not be aware that error measurements are taken on various aspects of master disc creation. These errors affect the sound quality and playability. There is an acceptable amount of errors that we live with but we strive for the lowest number of errors. Have you purchased or burned a disc that didn't play in your device or skipped a track? Those are errors in the disc. If the master contains errors, it will be replicated. Error reading software is extremely rare and difficult to find. We purchased ours about 12 years ago and had to have a friend in the UK buy and send it to us. It was not available in the USA.
The benefits to all this testing is a clearer, louder and better sounding disc that lasts a lifetime. For those that still love CD, our MQD discs made directly from masters sound incredible.
