I love baseball. I love listening to baseball on the radio when I'm gardening. I love watching baseball at night as I'm headed off to sleep. I heard a saying the other day, "Sports is the reward of a functioning society" which has haunted me ever since. How is any sports team going to play during the pandemic?
When you start to think about social distancing or wearing masks or the amount of testing needing to be done... not just by the players but by the entire crew that attends a game... it's enormous. It's one thing to keep high salaried players confined, but how do you keep the group around them contained enough for the players to feel protected. And what about the families of the players? You might have kids returning to school who's environments are less controlled.
And then it will happen... someone is bound to test positive for COVID and is the whole season canceled again? As much as I'm tired (like everyone) from hearing reruns of our favorites games, I don't think it's realistic right now. We aren't a functioning society as much as we would like to think we are. I hope I'm wrong about this.
