When the pandemic lockdown was announced, John R Burr and Mads Tolling were recording with us at OTR Studios. It was March 16, 2020 and we were told that the next day, we would all be confined to our homes. No one knew what that meant on that day. It was an eerie feeling that the possibility existed we may never finish this recording.
We recorded 6 incredible songs. We stopped production on the Mostly Piano album to insert one of these songs from this session... in case we weren't able to realize the completion of their own album.
Well, we are thrilled to announce that John and Mads returned to the studio this week and added enough songs to complete the album. We expect the release in the upcoming months.
No one had contracted the COVID disease, all of us had changed our lifestyles. We talked about teaching music from zoom, performing concerts on balconies, livestreaming everything and what we were planning to do next. We cheered the fact that the long drives to the studio were shortened by the lack of cars. No more time limit to leave the studio due to traffic jams.
It took 5 months before we reopened for this recording. Recording won't be our new normal. We're working out ways to work remotely with artists. But for our personal morale, it was good to be recording in our studio for our crew and the musicians we love.
