#73 The new look for Blue Coast Records website
Blue Coast Records is a label. What does that mean? It means Blue Coast Records owns the masters and creates a brand around the kind of music we choose to record. That music has been guided by my personal taste in what I enjoy hearing. Sometimes the artists overlook their own best feature: the ability to perform fantastically live whether in concert or in the studio. Blue Coast Records chooses to capture those intimate moments.
For years I was a hired gun to record, mix, and master the artist's dream come true in music. Unfortunately, it was often my opinion that the artist overlooked what the audience might want to hear -- the breath, spontaneity, passion, and fun that often comes during a recording session. When the musicians are gathered in a circle learning a song, it was often in those moments that I was enchanted. It seemed that others might want to hear that part of the music -- the humanity of the performance. I learned early on to capture those moments even when the artist didn't think they were ready.
A few episodes back, Tony Furtado recalled a time when I recorded the first take of a rehearsal. I remember hearing after the performance "Dang! We should have been recording that!" Well, guess what, I did record it and it was released on Rounder Records.
I started Blue Coast Records to satisfy the hunger for those who appreciate the sound of an intimate gathering of musicians. Sure, we could record big ensembles with loud drums, massive guitars, keyboard and vocal overdubs for days and enjoy the process of doing it (and we still do!). Overproduction to the max.
But there's plenty of that around. You can find it in 99% of the music being released. That's not what Blue Coast Records is about.
The original website served a purpose. It had information, albums and a few tidbits of information, but honestly, no one liked how it looked. It had a purpose -- which was to send you off to our new music download store: Blue Coast Music, a store for high resolution downloads.
On January 15, 2021 Blue Coast Records will have a new distribution partner in Entertainment One. We will be launching our music to more than 240 digital audio streaming and download services around the world. To celebrate the expansion, we decided to rebuild the Blue Coast Records brand and website.
The new look reflects how the music sounds to us -- a beautiful look, new colors, easy on the eyes, and clean - like the music, an expression that matches the sound.
We have a long way to go. We'll be adding more information, more news, better photos, and moving things around to make it easy to research your favorite artist or album. After January you'll have a long list of online stores you'll be able to preview or download the music.
Most of you are audiophiles who will want to be going to bluecoastmusic.com to buy our music in high resolution downloads. The new Blue Coast Records store is meant for all the people we've left out of hearing our music; that base of people who might enjoy the hearing on Tidal or Apple Music or Spotify. Possibly your sons and daughters, your wives or husbands, my own friends and family, who don't care so much about sound technology but want to hear the music more easily and have it readily available on their cell phones.
This new website is for the artists whose fans are not always audiophiles.
And for them we present the new Blue Coast Records. (Please remember, we don't have Tidal, Apple Music, or Spotify available until AFTER Jan 15, 2021)
Again, thank you for your patience while we continue to update the new site.
Happy Holidays!
