Recently we've had a lot of requests from labels wanting to be part of our Blue Coast Music store. Unfortunately, most of the other labels don’t record the music in DSD. While we at Blue Coast Records and our associated studios feel DSD is the best format for recording, it's not always the easiest format for most engineers to access or record to. For that reason we offer mixing and mastering to DSD through our studio.
If you have tracks recorded to PCM WAV - whether Pro Tools, Logic, Reaper or whatever other Digital Audio Workstation - we can take those tracks, import them into our systems and mix them through our analog console direct to DSD256. Adding the analog stage "outside of the box" (meaning not mixed inside the computer) makes for a bigger sound with more depth. From there you want the best sound possible. This is a perfect time to capture the mix in DSD256 instead of going back to another PCM WAV file.
Sure, we'd like all recording to be in DSD, but for many artists and studios, the costs of owning a suitable DSD recording workstation is outside of their price range. Our methods of mixing give a recording another chance to bump up the quality and dynamics at the next best stage: the mix. AES and The Recording Academy both feel this is a suitable method for raising the quality of a standard recording to HD.
