It's Grammy voting time! For the next two weeks, those of us with the power to vote on our favorite new music choose a few categories of dozens and pick 5 of our favorite albums fo the hundreds that are submitted in our selected categories. In two weeks, those choices are added up and the top 5 entries become the nominations for The Grammys. We voting members then go back and vote again. In January, the winners are announced on the day of the show.
Only a few of the categories actually make it to the TV show... many of my favorite categories never make it to the TV show. Come to think of it, I don't think "Best New Age" album ever made it to the TV show. Only 10% of the announcements actually make it to the TV. Often, the 90% of the remaining awards are given out very quickly in a pre TV show.... which is honestly more fun than the TV show when you're in the audience. I've had the pleasure of attending the show about 6 times when I was on the Board of Governors.
Say what you might about The Grammy show, it's an amazing production to pull off in such little time. And always an honor to be considered.
The other thing that happens now is "FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION".. If you've worked on or were an artist on an album, the emails start coming with to better highlight albums. I don't usually do this but Fiona and Becky have delivered such an exceptional album, FYC....
For the first round of submissions, if you're a voting member...
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION - Best New Age album
Heavenly Voices - Fiona Joy Hawkins and Rebecca Daniel
Engineered and Produced by Cookie Marenco
Recorded live to DSD --- an amazing performance and sound. I encourage you all to check out the reviews and have a listen for yourself.
"Heavenly Voices will surely be one of my go-to selections when I review
stereo equipment. There are very few recordings that capture the
intrinsic warmth of the piano and violin so effectively and through my
reference system, Fiona and Rebecca were in my listening room playing a
personal recital just for me" Lawrence Devoe (Theaterbyte)
Have a wonderful week and enjoy your music!

For Your Consideration Heavenly Voices (New Age) Fiona Joy Hawkins, Rebecca Daniel
Australian musicians Fiona Joy Hawkins and Rebecca Daniel team up once again to create a remarkable acoustic New Age album titled Heavenly Voices. Recorded and mixed by veteran producer Cookie Marenco and released under Marenco's own label Blue Coast Records, Heavenly Voices sounds close and present. The entirety of the album was performed live in Blue Coast's Extended Sound Environment (E.S.E.) and recorded straight to DSD256. Expert recording techniques combined with high definition audio bring to life every rich keystroke and string vibration. Heavenly Voices is a testament to what great musicianship and studio engineering can accomplish.
Both virtuoso in their own right, together Hawkins and Daniel make for an incomparable team. Expertly crafted in composition, performance, and production, this is how the piano and violin were meant to sound!
