The first of two exciting compilations created for Blue Coast Music featuring the composer backed by a who's who of influential jazz and fusion artists.

Doug Robinson Compilation 1: DYNAMIC

It’s rare to find soulful, expressive playing blended with just enough edgy and innovative instrumental sounds to make it contemporary.

No more. Doug Robinson and his virtuoso companions make music that shows influences from soul and gospel, has spacious, appealing arrangements and uses special textures and sounds sparingly and tastefully to serve the song and create an exciting musical experience. These musicians—Peter Erskine on percussion, Mike Stern on guitar, John Pattituci on bass, and more--all have the skill to make propulsive and energetic music together without losing the sense of interplay between masters of their craft.

The arrangements balance a strong statement of identity with space for some of the best improvisational soloists around. Let’s look at a few tracks :

"NYBlues" kicks off with a tantalizing intro and drops into a solid groove over some hip blues composition and harmony.

"Wade In The Water" gets an energetic organ keyboard treatment. Angular turnarounds and rising key changes keep this soulful favorite moving along right to the end.

"Newbossa" – Rhythmically intriguing, open and spare, this performance continues the exploration, skillfully layering melody lines, melodies and harmonic figures.

Put this album on, let it track, and watch what happens. You may not stay in your chair.
